Northern Landscapes
This is a series of paintings inspired by the country around Allendale, Northumberland, England. It is a place I have great affection for. Family and friends live there. Although I have only been a fleeting visitor there, the place resonates. I want to know it better.
These paintings are based on photographs, which I used for their structure. They aren’t intended to be depictions of actual places. I hope they convey feelings about nature, for instance: the wind, the openness of space, the wildness, the sky above us, the surprises.
